NT Wright, How Can the Bible be Authoritative?
This is a great article where Wright demonstrates how one might conceive the Scriptures as authoritative. In it he sketches out his idea of God’s reality portrayed in five acts, with humanity living in the midst of the fifth act called to faithfully improvise its calling in the 21c.
Michael Goheen, The Urgency of Reading the Bible as One Story in the 21st Century
Joel Green, Practicing the Gospel in a Post-Critical World: The Promise of Theological Exegesis
This is a really fabulous article for anyone interested in seeing how narrative (read story) forms our worldview. (Interestingly enough these are themes developed in Wright’s groundbreaking work.) Green articulates how our lives are developed and defined by the stories that make them up, that is our lives take a narrative shape. In this sense, then, one can find meaningful ways in which to live in the story of Scripture.
Rikk Watts, Making Sense of Genesis 1
This article helps one push past the modern science debates to look afresh at what Genesis 1 originally intended, not to push aside issues of science and the like as unimportant, but rather to pick up on the deeply theological nature of Genesis one. For anyone interested in the historical context of Genesis 1 (the big picture) this is a great place to start.
