Church Planting Assessment Center & Felony Charges

We made it back from Jefferson City and the Church Planting Assessment Center before all the snow dumped and in just enough time for my mother-in-law to make it home without having to call me to pick her up on the side of the highway.

The weekend was really good. We got to meet some different potential church launchers at varying stages in the process. A few trying to discern if church launching is for them. A few who have already planted. And us for sure launching but in the process of support raising, etc.

I did find out something about myself that I didn’t know before. They ran a routine credit check and criminal background check. After our interview about launching Jerry said he needed to speak with me alone for a minute. I anticipated the obligatory (and necessary) “guy talk” - keep it in your pants, develop accountability, etc. But this isn’t what he told me. Instead Jerry asked, “Did you know when we ran the criminal background check that it would come with a felony charge.”

WHAT!?!

Apparently there has been some mix up and I have a felony charge of check fraud in Arkansas during a time when I lived in Kansas City. And I have a misdemeanor charge for something else.

So now I have the fun of trying to sort all that out. I’m not concerned because it’s not me and so I’m hoping it will be relatively easy to deal with.

At the very least I now have some much needed street cred! Speaking of street cred, check this out.

Sounds like Satan is messing with your criminal record brother. It’s good that you got a call from your mom-in-law right when you got home, that’s a total God-thing.

Well that is the crazy thing when I was hired by the MBC in 2003 it should have shown up. But nothing then, so I don’t know what the deal is yet. But pretty crazy.

    A felony AND a misdemeanor?

Uhh, my friend was wondering if you will be be running back ground checks on those joining you in the KC church planting endeavor? And if so, will it be a big deal if their record is about the same as yours?
