Thursday Night Reflection
Things went really well tonight, for a change.ÂÂ
It seems we always have technical glitches but tonight was smooth. We did have one video not work but we discovered that in our prep time so it didn’t disrupt anything. We had one mic squeal, but could have been worse. And then the other video had some background noise issues that made it a bit distracting and hard to follow. But, all in all it went well tonight.
The band was hot. In fact we had a guy walking by stop in because he heard the band wailing, that was cool. Not sure his story but he just came in because of the music, didn’t even know who we were. I met him as he came in and invited him to stay. I got to introduce him to the guys in the band and they are hanging out on Monday. Pretty awesome fellas.
I think I did a better job communicating my thoughts tonight than last week. I think last week I was more nervous about the Big Reveal than I thought going into it. And the crazy thing is I really struggled knowing what direction to take things tonight. For the last month as I thought about it I hadn’t a clue. But over the last week things just really fell together and some more ideas came even today.
We were able to get our audio worked out so I will post the audio content from tonight, if you’re interested in that.
I’m also working at typing up my talk from the night to post it here. So who knows, if I can actually stay motivated that will be up from last week and tonight pretty soon (by Monday?).
We had a pretty good crowd tonight. Still seeing some new people which is awesome. On that note, I know the weakness of what we’re doing right now is our follow-up procedure with new people. I think we do okay with that relationally. That’s to say, we connect new people with regulars pretty well. For instance, tonight a new girl came that I met before we began. I connected her with several of our female leaders and she ended up coming over the BSU for pancakes afterward. (Why do we have pancakes after The Well? I have no idea, but they started it last semester.)
On a related note. I think our student leaders do a great job of connecting with newcomers. One of the things we talk about over and over and over and over and over again is how we need to focus on the newcomers because our friends aren’t going anywhere. And more often than not they do an phenomenal job with that!
Well, that’s it for tonight. Tomorrow Carrie and I head off to a Church Planters Assessment weekend in Jeff City.
More to come…
