Churches on Campus 3

Some have asked what this campus church network will look like here at CMSU.  As I said in a comment the specifics will be determined by the individual campus church but there is an underlying value system that will describe all the churches in the network.

So here is a brief description:

1. They will value missional living in their setting.  We will begin the experiment on campus so the immediate focus for the individual campus church will be the res hall in which they are located.  The focus of these campus churches is to connect with those far from God, not to become a cool place for Christians to hang out.  Followers of Jesus should expect to serve in these campus churches.
2. They will value reproduction/multiplication.  They will act like a cell, as they grow they will multiply.  So when the group grows somewhere around 20-25 they will then form a new group (or groups) and start the process again.
3. Leadership development will be at the core.  The BSU will form the hub for the network and the BSU campus minister will become the overseer of the network.  This will entail many things, one of which will be leadership development of these young pastors, equipping them to lead their campus church.  Then, in turn, these church leaders will focus on developing leaders in their campus church so that ‘indigenous’ leadership will arise, thus enable multiplication to happen.
4. This network will value the scriptures and the Lordship of Jesus for their direction.  This will play itself out in participative Bible study for the individual campus churches.

Some specifics we know now:

1. We have two leaders as of now and will begin with one campus church.  The plan is for this church to grow the second church by October or so.  This will help to immediately instill the value of multiplication.
2. We have not identified a place yet.  I would like to see us on both sides of campus as we begin.

Well, that’s a little more on the specifics.  I’m sure I have left out important info, I’m horrible with details, so feel free to ask follow-up questions.

One final note.  If this intriguing to you as you read this maybe you need to consider being a part of one of these this fall.  If you have a desire to see people connect to the love of God then this might be a great place for you to serve others…Just a thought.
